Hewlett Packard Bullish About GST; Believes Demand for PCs Would Increase

GST to Help HP India Boost its Sales

Electronic major Hewlett Packard (HP) India is optimistic that GST implementation would help boost the demand for PCs and laptops driven by small and medium businesses.

“We are going through the transition and ensuring that we and our channel partners are prepared for the new GST regime. There are a few challenges but we are ensuring that things are in place by July 1,” said, Ketan Patel, HP India Senior Director (Personal Systems).

Since the GST rate for desktops and laptops has been fixed at 18%, the effect on consumers would be negligible as the prevailing tax rates are about the same.

“However, we do expect GST to help tech companies as small and medium businesses will adopt more PCs and that is a big opportunity for players like us,” he said.

HP India leads the overall PC market in the country with 29.5% share, followed by Dell at 22.5%, Lenovo at 17.7% and Acer with 14.5%.
